Annual Conference: Chancel screens since the Reformation

The Society’s 2019 Annual Conference will address the fascinating topic of chancel screens after the Reformation. Details of the programme, speakers and how to book a place at the conference will be announced in due course.

The conference will aim to develop an understanding of:

• how and why attitudes towards chancel screens changed across this long period;
• the erection of new screens since the Reformation;
• the ways in which both pre and post-Reformation screens have been adapted, relocated and re-used at various times in response to liturgical and ecclesial change; and
• in all of the above, consideration of matters of style and artistry, alongside matters of purpose and belief.
