The Taylor Review into the sustainability of Church of England churches has been published and is accessible via the link below.
Among the key recommendations, it proposes creating a national structured framework of Community Support Advisers to assist parishes in finding community uses for churches (and income from them); and Fabric Support Officers to provide expert advice on buildings maintenance, with whose support all parishes would prepare a 10 year rolling programme of major repairs and an on-going plan of minor repairs. The report proposes a government-funded pilot scheme to test out the full range of recommendations.
The report is clear about the continuing need for on-going government funding, while seeking ways to increase local funding as well.
