Stone thefts – vigilance advised

A pattern may be emerging following the recent theft of an important 9th century Anglo Saxon stone from Hovingham church, near Malton, the theft of an ancient Norse stone from Harewood Church last year, and others. Churches holding items like this are urged to review their security measures, and secure stones either with fixings or in display cases. Details of the Hovingham theft can be found here.
